Travel Blogs I’m Following In 2012

Long before I started to remake my own life in order to travel, I spent years with the idea just marinating in my brain.  I’d scour the Internet looking for stories of others who’d had success traveling, proof that I, too, might be able to make this thing work.  Each time I discovered a new blog that resonated with me I would devote whole evenings reading through the archives.
There are a ton of great travel blogs out there but there are a select few that I read from beginning to end every single time a new post is published. Below you’ll find a list of my favorite travel bloggers.  Check them out, you might find a new favorite yourself.

The Experts

Almost Fearless
Christine quit her corporate job in 2008 and moved overseas with her husband, Drew.  They’ve been traveling the world ever since, and have figured out how to make a living through creative endeavors.  Almost two years ago they added a baby to the mix, proving that it really is possible to live life exactly as you’ve dreamed.

Married With Luggage
Betsy and Warren aren’t just travel bloggers, they’re more like life coaches, taking big chances and showing the world what’s possible.  In 2010 they sold their home and quit their jobs to travel around the world for three years.  Along the way they’ve had some great adventures but it’s been truly enjoyable to follow their evolution from stuff-piling, home-owning, overworked office dwellers to relaxed and happy travelers.  You can sense the joy and freedom in everything they write.

One Giant Step
In 2009 Gillian and her partner Jason took a leave from their jobs and traveled the world for a year.  When they returned, they packed up their few belongings and moved across their home country of Canada, settling down in a brand new place.  Their next goal is to move overseas.  What I love about Gillian is that she constantly challenges herself, unwilling to take the easy road just because it is easy, always ensuring that it is also the right road for her.  The stories about her year-long travels are honest and raw but it is her new stories, about continuiously striving to live an authentic life, that I look forward to reading now.

The Newbies

Jack and Jill Travel the World
I completely relate to Jack and Jill because their story reminds me of my own.  They left behind their good jobs last April to travel slowly around the world, beginning in South America.  They’re outdoor enthusiasts, much more comfortable in the mountains than a city.  I always love reading about their adventures.

Hecktic Travels
Dalene and Pete Heck aren’t really newbies, they’ve been traveling the world since 2009 but just recently spruced up their blog.  The Heck’s are true storytellers and the stories they tell are often hilarious.  These two have an open and optimistic way of looking at the world, I’d love to sit down and have a beer with them (hopefully some day I will!).

The Dreamers

Sarah Somewhere
Sometimes you come across another blogger that makes you think she’s living my life on the other side of the world!  Okay, maybe it isn’t that common to come across someone like that, but it’s exactly how I feel about Sarah.  Sarah is currently working towards following her dreams of writing and traveling (sound familiar?).  She’s got her house on the market, she’s leaving her job and soon she’ll be setting off to travel the world with her love Tyrhone.  Sarah writes beautifully about her past travels (she’s done quite a bit) but also very honestly about the scary, exciting, messy process of letting go of a great life and stepping into the great unknown.  You won’t want to miss her journey.

Further Bound
Hannah is a new blogger but I think that she is going to write amazing things.  In September 2012 she’ll be setting off to travel the world with her boyfriend.  Along the way they plan to get married, have a baby and start a charity, it’s quite a plan!  Above all else, Hannah’s blog is about discovering herself in the world.  When it gets right down to it, isn’t that what travel is all about?
